The Little Room develops both social and academic skills by teaching the whole child in an orderly and safe environment. By being consistent in our schedule, it fosters a child’s selfesteem by making the child comfortable and confident by being aware of what happens next. Our schedule is as follows:
The children are greeted and put their backpack and coat away. They are encouraged to work both independently and in groups.
Lesson Time #1
Children begin their daily routine with attendance, weather charting, Pledge of Allegiance, and morning exercise. New weekly Montessori
activities are introduced. The children participate in a structured lesson which supports the color, shape, and number of the month using various mediums such as glue, paints and craft materials.
Snack is provided allowing the children the opportunity to practice manners and patience. Practical life skills are reinforced with the disposal of cup and napkin.
Gross Motor Skills
Fair or foul weather, the children are given the opportunity to develop gross motor skills. Fair weather includes playground time while foul
weather activities might include dance, exercise, or motion games.
Lesson Time #2
A song and story help develop verbal skills. The flannel board is used to reinforce the color, shape, and number of the month. Show and tell is presented allowing the children an opportunity to enhance verbally.
Preparation for Home
The children put on coats, gather belongings and line up to say good-bye.
